The plants that surround the cover of The Tainted Land represent the perilous journey that the characters must take through the tainted land, with dangers closing in on them, and the spiral represents Chinqwacho's portal in Mosswind Forest.

The Tainted Land is the second instalment, which continues at Mossguard, the Tur's haven set within an enchanted dome built to keep the enemy out, which is all well and good, but what if the enemy isn’t just on the outside?

Elk and his kin cross paths with new allies and old enemies as they continue their unsettling journey through tainted land and a forest full of lurking dangers, hoping to reach Dirtbere city; chasing rumours of a possible sighting of someone they desperately want to meet.
Will Rhoadan find out why he’s in the predicament he’s in?
Can he survive the dark and escape his trap?
And, perhaps most importantly, will Elk ever eat enough to satisfy his insatiable appetite? (It doesn't appear likely.)
